Itinerary details day per day

Day 1: Ulaabaaatar City

Accommodation: Hotel in Ulaanbaatar   Meals: Lunch/Dinner

Upon your arrival at Chinggis Khaan International Airport, the team will greet you and transfer you to your hotel. The itinerary includes a city tour featuring the National History Museum and Sukhbaatar Square. In the late afternoon, we will visit a Morin Khuur Museum and art studio in Ulaanbaatar to enjoy a cultural performance and observe the crafting of the horse-headed fiddle. You will spend the night at the hotel.

Day 2: Bayangobi

Accommodation: Burd Star camp      Meals: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner      Distance: 260 km/4-5 hours driving

After breakfast, we will drive to Bayangobi, a unique destination featuring diverse natural landscapes, including Gobi dunes, forests, and the rugged Rocky Mountains. Here, we will have the opportunity to hike in the small dunes and experience a camel ride. In the afternoon, we will visit Uvgun Monastery, a historic site located in the majestic Khugnu Khaan Mountains, about 30 km from our ger camp. We will then stop by a nearby lake for birdwatching before returning to the ger camp for an overnight stay.

Day 3: Maihan Tolgoin Am

Accommodation: Naiman Nuur Eco camp      Meals: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner     Distance: 280 km/3-4 hours of driving

Today we will drive to the Maikhan Tolgoin Am via Ulaan Tsohio. Upon arriving at the camp, we’ll begin with some local exploration. In the afternoon, we will begin preparing for the upcoming trek by meeting the trekking team and sharing important details, such as your riding experience (beginner or advanced). Overnight at the camp.

Day 4: Maihan Tolgoin Am

 Accommodation: Naiman Nuur Eco camp     Meals: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner      Distance: 10-15 km/3-4 hours of trekking

After breakfast, we will learn how to saddle and ride Mongolian horses, with safety gear provided. At 10:00 AM, we will ride with local guides to the small waterfall, situated in an extinct volcano crater. Following their exploration of the site, they will return to the eco-camp for lunch at approximately 1:00 pm. In the afternoon, guests will visit a nomadic family to learn about traditional herder life, including the making of dairy products and the distillation of milk vodka. Overnight at the camp.

Day 5: Naiman Nuur Area/Shireet Lake

Accommodation: Tent   Meals: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner      Distance: 15 km/4-5 hours of trekking

After breakfast, we can observe the process of saddling the horses and loading luggage onto the yaks. For safety during the trip, each person will be equipped with a helmet and riding boots. A detailed briefing on how to ride Mongolian horses will be given. Around 10:00 AM, we will mount our horses and, accompanied by local guides, set off toward the “Naiman Nuur” area. After travelling for about 2 hours along the route, we will stop for lunch at the Shireet Pass, which is located over 3,000 meters above sea level. After lunch, we will continue for another 2–3 hours and spend the night in tents on the northern shore of Shireet Lake, the first of the “Naiman Nuur”. Overnight in a tent.

Day 6: Naiman Nuur Area/Khuis Lake

Accommodation: Tent     Meals: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner       Distance: 18 km/4-5 hours of trekking

The tour starts at 10:00 AM and heads towards Khuis Lake. On the way, you will see four lakes called Khaliut, Bugat, Khayaa, and Shanaa. After about 2 hours of travel, we will have lunch around Khuis Lake. After the meal, the tour continues to see Duruu and Bayan lakes. You will spend the night in a ger or a tent near Khuis and Bayan lakes. /A ger accommodates 4 or more people, and a tent accommodates 2 people/

Day 7: Buureg Pass/Orkhon Valley – long day

Accommodation: Talbiun camp     Meals: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner     Distance: 15 km/4-5 hours of trekking/ 25 km by car

After breakfast in the morning, we will trek for about 2.5 hours and have lunch in the beautiful valley of Buureg. Here, we will meet with our vehicles, and the horse and yak guides will return from this point. The tour then continues by vehicle for about 25 km to reach Orkhon Waterfall and Ulaan Tsutgalan. This stunning waterfall welcomes visitors with its natural beauty. Situated within the UNESCO-listed Orkhon Valley Cultural Landscape, the area is steeped in history and surrounded by pristine nature and local nomadic traditions. Overnight in a Ger Camp. /Late arrival at the camp before dinner/

Day 8: Kharkhorin

Accommodation: Urguu camp       Meals: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner       Distance: 160 km/4 hours driving

Today we will continue driving to Kharkhorin, one of Mongolia's most historically significant cities. Kharkhorin was once the capital of the Mongol Empire during the reign of Khubilai Khaan in the 13th century. In the afternoon, we will visit Erdenezuu Monastery and Kharkhorin Museum. The steppe around Kharkhorin offers clear skies, making it an excellent location for stargazing (optional). Evening cultural performance by local artists (optional). Overnight in a ger camp

Day 9: Ulaanbaatar City     

 Accommodation: Hotel in Ulaanbaatar   Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner                Distance: 380 km / 5 hours driving

Today we will return to Ulaanbaatar. An optional shopping trip after lunch. An evening cultural performance followed by a dinner and a calligraphy session.  We will spend the night at the hotel.

Day 10: Naadam Festival

Accommodation: Hotel in Ulaanbaatar       Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

Full day at the Naadam Festival. Naadam is Mongolia’s biggest traditional festival, celebrated every July 11-12. The opening ceremony begins at 11 am, followed by the “Three Manly Games” — wrestling, ankle bone shooting, and archery. The festival highlights Mongolia’s rich nomadic culture through exciting competitions, music, and vibrant ceremonies. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 11: Naadam Festival/Horse racing in Khui Doloon Khudag

Accommodation: Hotel in Ulaanbaatar     Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner       Distance: 40 km / 2 hours driving-one way

Full day at the horse racing in Khui Doloon Khudag. Horse racing is a key event of the Naadam Festival held every July. Young jockeys race horses over long distances based on the horses’ ages, showcasing Mongolia’s history and tradition. The races are lively, full of local customs, and highlight the skill and endurance of both horses and riders. After lunch in Khui Doloon Khudag, we will drive back to Ulaanbaatar and overnight at the hotel.

Day 12: International departures. Transfer to the airport.

  • Evening hiking is suggested in the Naiman Nuur Area
  • Please advise clients to bring as little luggage as possible. The group will have yaks for all luggage, including the kitchen equipment.

  • Please inform clients to bring their power banks as they cannot charge electronic devices during the tented nights.
  • The mobile shower is provided during the trekking days. However, it might be quite cold if it rains.
  • Small tipping is expected for the local horse and yak guide.
